(11,22,2022) Iconoclast is a person who attacks cherished beliefs or traditional institutions. Two perfect examples are Steve Bannon and his crony, the former president of the United States, the P.O.T.A.S. (President of the American Supremacists). One may also include all far right extremists who would like to tear apart their own constitution and rebuild it to their liking in order to suit their own selfish needs. To do so, they instill distrust and hatred, using lies and deceit to achieve their goals. What strikes me as the most hypocritical of these Republicans, the elected ones in government who continue to spread the big lie, the election deniers, is that they claim to be Christians. Or, at least, most of them do so! Now, I am not a politician, nor a religious leader, but, there is one thing that I do know for certain. True Christians do not behave in the manner which the P.O.T.A.S.’ Republicans have been displaying! Point of fact! When Nancy Pelosi gave her farewell speech, the other day, the presumed next speaker of the house, Kevin McCarthy, revealed that he has no class whatsoever. He did not even attend the meeting at the house of Representatives. Instead, he stayed away, probably licking his wounds after the unsatisfactory midterms during which he did not receive the support he was expecting. So, just like a spoiled brat, he avoided the ceremony, using the time to plot his revenge against the Democratic party. Apparently, he is going to devote all of his resources and energy, not working for the benefit of the American people, but focusing on one witch hunt after another, re-investigating everything that the Democrats have done in the last few years. McCarthy still has not gotten it into his head that the American people have already spoken. By giving the senate back to the Democrats, they are saying that they have had enough with divisiveness. The American people are tired of the same old lies. They voted out the election deniers. They want two parties that can work together to get things done. The vitriolic language of P.O.T.A.S.’ Republicans can no longer be tolerated. But, McCarthy has become so blinded, by ambition and hatred, that he and his cronies cannot see the truth that is staring them in the face. When Nancy Pelosi’s husband was attacked, and nearly killed, by a right wing extremist who plotted to do the same to her, one of the Republican members joked about it while others laughed. I can assure you that the dialogue would have been different if it was one of their colleagues who had been attacked. Thankfully, that particular member was voted out during the midterm elections. When are these people going to start acting like the Christians that they claim to be? One can disagree about policy without obscenely attacking their opponent with the caustic vitriol that spews forth from Republican leaders. The Christian way would be to find a common ground upon which to build, and not spend one’s time tearing down a particular person, policy or party. “Work together!” That is what the American people are saying. “Stop behaving like bullies in a school yard!” and, “Grow up!” It is time for the Republican members to practice what they learned in their holy books and stop abusing the constitution which their forefathers set up as guidelines for a democratic society! “Us against them!” can never work in a democratic free world. The system requires honest god-fearing individuals, on both sides, who are willing to collaborate, for the sake of the people who elected them, in order to make good policy which benefits everyone. The commandment, ‘Love thy neighbour as thyself’, does not add, ‘but only if they belong to the same political party’. Perhaps these iconoclasts would also like to amend the ten commandments, in order to better suit their own needs. How about, ‘Thou shalt not kill, unless its a member of the opposing party!’ Perhaps, Kevin McCarthy would also like to put a ‘spin’ on the commandments. He is, after all, very good at that sort of thing, having been the P.O.T.A.S.’ number one stooge from the beginning. He even admitted on public television, FOX News, that the Republican investigation into the response by Obama and Hillary Clinton, during the Benghazi incident, was just a ploy to make Hillary Clinton look bad. The Republicans had launched multiple investigations into the attack, by terrorists, in the U.S. diplomatic mission, in Benghazi, in an attempt to blame the president and the secretary of state for failure to do more than they could. No evidence was ever found to support that accusation and it was ultimately dismissed. And yet, McCarthy told Hannity that the ‘mission’ was a total success because it achieved their goal which was to force down the number of Clinton supporters. “And it did!”, said McCarthy, pointing out Hillary Clinton’s failure at the polls during the next election, for which he accepted praise and gratitude from Hannity. For at least a decade, Kevin McCarthy has been the P.O.T.A.S.’ errand boy and dirty trickster. It is scary to think that this lackey of the corrupt P.O.T.A.S. will be running the House of Representatives in the near future. God help the Americans! McCarthy has already admitted that he plans many more such ‘investigations’, just like the one in Benghazi. He will use these witch hunts to begin a smear campaign against the Democrats, starting with Joe Biden’s son, who has already been cleared of any wrong doing by previous investigations. But, that doesn’t matter. The focus will be on destroying another good name or names, just dirty politics, by deplorable republicans who are willing to deceive the American people to get what they want. These people do not understand what it means to be ethical. But, perhaps, there is still hope for the survival of democracy in America. Apparently, there are many Republican representatives who disagree with the kind of tactics employed by McCarthy. These are the more ethical of the group, such as Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger who may have had some influence on their colleagues. Adam Kinzinger recently pointed out that many liberals approached him and Liz Cheney and applauded them for their courage, but, he replied that it doesn’t take courage to do a minimum of what’s right and speak the truth, then, “Its just that we are surrounded by cowards,” said Kinzinger. Unfortunately, the latter two will no longer be serving in the house. But, other moderate Republican representatives appear to be taking their cue from the two who set a fine example of how decent honest politicians should behave and serve. Thusly, all I can say is, “Thank God for the Republican centrist!”
