(12,21,2021) Myopia is a condition of the eye, in which objects are seen distinctly only at a short distance; or, a lack of foresight, as is the case with people who choose to support dictators, thereby placing them in power. History has proven that, time and again, dictators have shown themselves to be solely self-indulgent, interested more in what they can gain for themselves rather than for their people or their country. Have you ever seen a tyrant sacrifice anything for his own country? Such a person is an egotistic, sociopathic, deluded narcissist. But, one who has conned his way to the top of the heap. The common people, who raise him to this level, have mistaken his traits for signs of leadership. The only true strength or trait, of this autocrat, is his ability to manipulate people into believing that his desire is for the well-being of those who have chosen him to lead. Some such authoritarians tend to emote a certain charisma which can induce a type of myopia in those who come to idolize him. It has been said that the former president of the United States, the P.O.T.A.S. (President of the American Supremacists) used such charm on his followers, just like a cult leader. A direct comparison can be made between the P.O.T.A.S. and the late President of Cuba, Fidel Castro. To this day, there are still many in Cuba who idolize the late ‘El Presidente’, praising him for his charisma, even though Castro did little, after the revolution, to improve the welfare of the people under his rule. Aside from militants and sycophants who clung to him, most of his people had continued to live in squalid conditions, the majority barely able to survive on what little, if any, wages that were weaned out to the labourers. Only an elite few flourished under Castro’s rule. He was an opportunist who used the real hero of the revolution, Che Guevara, the guerilla leader that rallied his compatriots to oppose the former dictator of Cuba. Guevara fought for the freedom and rights of the people of Cuba. He wanted them to have something better. Castro saw what Che and his guerillas could do and he capitalized on it. Castro was a military man. He and his soldiers joined Che Guevara’s revolutionists who overthrew the authoritarian regime. Then, Castro stepped up with his soldiers and took charge, claiming credit for the coup. Che Guevara would soon fade into memory, not realizing that he had just replaced one despot with another. Che sought justice for the people of Cuba. He wanted to give them a country where everyone had equal rights and shared in prosperity. Instead, the country had disposed of one oppressor and placed another tyrant in charge, whose first order of business was to grant himself absolute power, declaring himself president for life. One could argue that Che and the people of Cuba suffered from myopia when placing Castro in charge. If this sounds familiar, its because it has happened over and over again, in every dictatorship in the history of the world. Although the father of Kim Jong Un was instrumental in setting up the republic of North Korea, after the war, Kim inherited the leadership of the country, thereby making him an authoritarian ruler, over a monarchy rather than a democracy. So, too, in the republic of Russia, although Putin was initially elected, he has managed to change the rules so that he could remain president for life. While Kim Jong Un has eliminated family members to ensure his place as supreme ruler, Putin also removes political rivals who oppose him and threaten him in an election. Neither will ever relinquish their power. And then, there is President Chi of China. Chi, also, was initially elected, like Putin, but, who is to say how fair either election had truly been? And, like Putin, Chi has changed the laws, declaring himself China’s president for life. So, I guess, no more elections in China? Could the people of these countries be suffering from a myopic condition? Chi might as well have declared himself China’s emperor. Even the P.O.T.A.S., who openly idolized all three afore-mentioned dictators, on national television, recognized the significance. At a much publicized political event, the former president of America, the P.O.T.A.S., referred to Chi as the ‘Emperor of China’. “No! No!” smiled Chi, “I’m just the president”, he corrected the former president. “Yeah!” said the P.O.T.A.S., “But, for life! I wish that I could do that!” For one very brief moment, the P.O.T.A.S. actually admitted the truth. His egotistical tendencies escaped him and he admitted that he would love to emulate his idols, the three major dictators in the world, today. So, like Castro, the P.O.T.A.S. rallied people to his cause, conning them into believing that he wanted the same thing as them. He lied to the Republicans, saying he would not increase the deficit. Then raised it by the trillions in an effort to support another lie, the wall. He promised white supremacists that he would build a wall to keep out immigrants who were supposedly stealing their jobs and destroying the ‘white way of life’. He fanned the fears of Republicans, telling them lies, like the immigrants were responsible for all their problems, from crime to poverty. Then, on Jan.6’21, the P.O.T.A.S. lied again to the white supremacists, saying that he would be right there marching with them as they stormed the capitol. Instead, he was holed up in his chambers, smiling with glee, while good people died. Even far right supporters, like those on FOX News and the P.O.T.A.S.’ own son, Junior, admitted in private that he had gone too far. All of this is becoming more evident thanks to the truths that are being exposed by the Jan. 6 committee. All the evidence points to the P.O.T.A.S. having planned and instigating the attack on Capitol Hill with the intent of using an attempted coup to overthrow the electoral results and place him back in power. The P.O.T.A.S. went all out to emulate his idols, using every nasty trick in the book. He had managed to manipulate innocent people, brain-washed into believing his lies, and convincing them, like a true con man, into following a handful of die hard supremacists and born again confederates who were bent on starting another revolutionary war. And, to do so, they were willing to over throw their own government and destroy democracy. The scary thing is that they almost succeeded. Even scarier, is the fact that many republicans, out there, are still of the same mind because their leaders in Congress and the Senate still continue to perpetuate the lies of the P.O.T.A.S., obviously not for the sake of their people, but, because they are so rapt up in self indulgence. These Republican members, of Congress and the Senate, have failed their people. Their self induced myopia blinds them to the needs of their people. They are incapable of commiseration.
